Gold Diggers Arms: 8 Hour Lamb Ribs
While out on a date night with my lovely wife recently we decided dine at the Gold Diggers Arms Hotel in Newtown. It was our first time at the ‘Diggers’ and given the quality of the meals we had it won’t be our last.
While reading the menu I was pleasantly surprised by the ‘8 hour lamb ribs’, this was a no-brainer for me, lamb ribs served with fat cut chips and salad. Yes please!
In no time at all our meals arrived, a large plate of delicious looking ribs with a separate bowl filled with fat cut chips and garden salad. The ribs were covered, almost swimming in a slightly sweet pan juice sauce, which was finger licking good.
The lamb was tender and delicious and it came away from the bone with ease. The flavour although quite subtle was very well balanced, not too sweet and not so spicy. My only complaint is how fatty the meat was. It’s almost unavoidable with lamb, I know, but the slow cooker didn’t render down enough of the fat.
The chips were hand cut and well seasoned they soaked up the left over rib sauce perfectly. I would almost go as far as saying they are some of the best chips I have had. As for the salad, you could take it or leave it in my opinion.
The service by the staff was great, I always had a drink, and wait staff knew the menu well. The Atmosphere was great and we both left thinking we had a great night out.
Value for money was ok, I would normally expect to pay $28-$32 for the amount of ribs I received. My ribs cost $36, which was around the same price as my wife’s eye fillet steak. I would recommend the ‘Diggers’ to rib lovers and foodies alike. I tried my wife’s steak and it was pretty amazing. I give the diggers two thumbs up; we will head there back for sure.
