BBQ Ribs in Manila, Philippines
You always tend to find ribs done in different styles when travelling overseas and on a recent work trip to Manila I wasn’t going to waste my 5 days in Manila without trying at least one rib dish. I found myself in Bonifacio Global City, the financial district of Manila, which used to be part of the main Philippine Army camp and which has a huge American influence, so American in fact that you can go to IHOP and P.F. Chang’s on the same street! Let the BBQ Ribs in Manila, Philippines begin!
Due to my work commitments I only managed to try out ta couple of rib dishes while in Manila and the first was at Agave Mexican Cantina, which was at B3 Bonifacio High Street, Bonifacio Global City. We headed there for the bottomless Margaritas and I was actually surprised to find ribs on the menu. The atmosphere at the cantina was amazing, the staff were all dressed in Mexican attire and to be honest with you, the bottomless Margaritas weren’t that great, so the ribs were a huge bonus!
I was a little doubtful of ribs at a Mexican restaurant, so to be on the safe side we ordered the Plato Platter, which was jam packed full of Mexican favourites and included the Agave Baby Back Ribs! On arrival, the platter looked great but what about those ribs? Well, the meat fell off the bone but their BBQ sauce had a odd flavour to it and it took away from the taste of the meat. I’d recommend the platter if you were visiting Agave Mexican Cantina, the ribs on their own would have been a little disappointing but they were fine as part of the platter.
On the last day in Manila, we decided to visit Wild West Roadhouse Grill which was located at Building 1, Bonifacio High Street, Bonifacio Global City. This place was recommended to us as one of the better places to have a steak and I was pleased to see baby back ribs on the menu. The atmosphere was pretty much non-existent at lunchtime but we brought our own atmosphere to the restaurant!
Several of us at the table ordered the ribs and I ordered mine with prawns, with such a large table our order did take some time but when the ribs arrived, we weren’t disappointed. The BBQ sauce was fantastic, the meat just fell off the bone and the prawns just added a bit of extra flavour to the dish! The side’s weren’t much to talk about as you can see in the photo above but I must say that they do good ribs!
If you do find yourself in Manila, I recommend trying Agave Mexican Cantina and Wild West Roadhouse Grill and if you have tried the ribs the Agave ribs, please let me know what you thought about their BBQ sauce. Hoping we head back to Manila soon as I’m hoping to try out the ribs at Tony Roma’s and New Orleans, both based in the Taguig area and I was told good things about their ribs.
The whole time I was in Manila, I was aware of the McRib was on the menu at Mc Donalds and a little part of me regrets not giving it a go but the rest of me was glad I didn’t! If you’ve had great ribs in Manila, why not comment below and let us know.
