Pumpkin Spiced BBQ Rub

Pumpkin-Spiced-BBQ-Rub

Pumpkin Spiced BBQ Rub is not a traditional rub you would find in the BBQ world but I wanted to try Thanksgiving-inspired cooks this year and decided I would make my own Pumpkin Spice BBQ Rub.

I got the key ingredients for the rub thanks to the legends at Bear Moutain BBQ and tweaked it a little for what I needed, here is what I put together in a bowl and mixed with a fork until it was well blended:

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup dark brown sugar
  • 2 Tablespoons kosher salt
  • 1 Tablespoon coarse cracked black pepper
  • 1 Tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1 Tablespoon onion powder
  • 2-3 Teaspoon chili powder
  • 1 Teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 Teaspoon pumpkin pie spice
  • 1 Teaspoon fine ground coffee

So what is Pumpkin Spice? There is no Pumpkin in it and all you need to do is just add the following spices in a bowl together and you got yourself Pumpkin Spice.

Pumpkin Spice Ingredients:

  • 3 Tbsp Ground Cinnamon
  • 2 tsp Ground Ginger
  • 2 tsp Nutmeg
  • 1 1/2 tsp Ground All Spice
  • 1 1/2 tsp Ground Cloves

This rub works great on ribs and turkey, the heat from the chilli helps balance some of the sweetness you might add with a glaze and is a nice change to some of the traditional BBQ flavours.

You can check out my Pumpkin Spiced Maple Glazed Ribs with a little Sugar & Spice, these pork ribs were amazing!

Once you make both the rub and spice, they will keep in an air-tight container for a few weeks, the rub will go clumpy with the sugar in it but a quick shake and you should be good. The Pumpkin Spice works great on french toast or on your favourite coffee too!
