I would like to kick start this cooking guide by letting you know that I am by no means a professional. I am simply cooking ribs for the love of ribs and trying different ways of preparing them. Enjoy my cook up!

Wet Ingredients:

Dry Ingredients:

  • 4 tsp Salt
  • 2 tsp Pepper
  • 4 tsp Garlic Powder
  • 4 tsp Ginger Powder
  • 4 tsp Mustard Powder
  • 4 tsp Onion Powder
  • 4-6 tsp Chilli Powder or to taste

What you will need:

  • A BBQ
  • Slow Cooker and a heck of lot of patience!
  • Basic kitchen utensils.

What you need to do:

1. Place all dry ingredients in a bowl together and mix well. Taste it, make sure you’re not missing anything. I personally added a lot more chilli to give it more kick.

2. Trim off any excess fat off your ribs and rub ribs generously with the dry rub, wrap it up in clean film and leave it in your fridge for 24 hours.

3. Fire up your BBQ grill!

4. Cut ribs up into manageable potions that will fit your slow cooker and throw them on the BBQ. I let them get a lot of colour when I was cooking mine up so you can carry that flavour throughout the slow cook.

5. Throw the ribs along with the ginger and garlic into the slow cooker, place it on high and cook for 4-5 hours. I sprinkled extra chilli flakes here for bit of extra zing!

6. Preaheat your oven to 160 degrees Celsius.

7. After 4 hours, check your ribs, if the meat is pulling away from the bone, its time to pull it out. If it needs a bit more time, then let it go, it really comes down to your slow cooker.

8. Once you are happy with your ribs, pull them out and glaze them with as much of the Hammer & Tongs Smoked Chipotle BBQ sauce as you want and place them in your oven for about 30-45 minutes.

9. Once the sauce has thickened up on the ribs, pull the ribs out of the over and let them rest.

10. Serve with extra Hammer & Tongs Smoked Chipotle BBQ sauce on the side and enjoy!

 Cooking Tips:

  • Trim most of the fat off your ribs, I left a bit too much on these ribs and ended up having to eat around the fat. Contact Sage Beef for your all your rib needs.
  • The sauce makes the ribs and the Hammer & Tongs Smoked Chipotle BBQ sauce was a fantastic addition to these ribs. I recommend using Hammer & Tongs Smoked Chipotle BBQ sauce or finding a good quality BBQ sauce, unless you want to make it yourself.
  • The dry mix is really up to your taste but I basically matched up some of the key ingredients in the Hammer & Tongs Smoked Chipotle BBQ sauce and it really helped marry the beef flavour to the BBQ sauce.
  • Eat your ribs when you first cook them up, reheated ribs just aren’t the same.
